February 24, 2016

We understand that not everybody understands the difference between different types of hair extensions available and the pros and cons to them, so we are here to explain and tell you everything you need to know about human hair, Remy hair, synthetic hair and heat resistant extensions!

Human Hair Extensions

These are by far the most popular type of hair extensions , this is because they can be treated like your own hair, they can be cut, curled, straightened and styled. They are very versatile and have a good life span, usually 3 months depending on the fitting, after care and the brand of hair extensions – you may find some branded standard human hair extensions are better than others – this is usually down to the amount of processing the hair has undergone at the time of manufacture. Just like your own hair, human hair extensions need great care with products such as heat protection sprays and Argan Oil treatments to keep them nourished and healthy. Fail to care for human hair extensions properly and these will go dry, matt and tangle up leaving you no option but to buy a new set. Hair colouring is also not recommended for human hair extensions as these have gone through much processing and colouring at manufacture and the results of colouring them again is not guaranteed. and may cause damage.

Remy Hair Extensions

Remy Hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the cuticles are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-Remy hair extensions. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates extensions that are completely natural in appearance. This process ensures that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky and completely tangle-free throughout its lifetime. These are more expensive than the standard human hair extensions but depending on the brand, have a lifespan of 9-12 months if cared for properly. The after care for Remy Hair Extensions is the same as Human Hair, use heat protection sprays, Argan Oils and hair masks.

Synthetic Hair Extensions

These are the cheapest range of hair extensions and are usually found as clip ins. These cannot be curled or straightened as they are synthetic fibre and will frazzle and damage which will be unrepairable. Pro longed wear of these are not recommended, these are not suitable for people who wish to wear hair extensions long term with little maintenance, these are more suited to adding instant volume and length for daily wear or for special occasions. These don’t require a great deal of care, to wash them, this is usually with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo, rub through and leave to dry – do not blow dry – this will damage them.

Heat Resistant Hair Extensions

These type of hair extensions are more superior than regular synthetic as they can be curled and straightened to a certain temperature – check the packaging of the extensions you have for guidelines. As these are still synthetic, they don’t require a great deal of care, to wash them, rub through with lukewarm water and mild shampoo.
